In Sunday's second game of the London Series, Jose Iglesias jubilantly celebrates crossing the plate to score a run for the New York Mets.
The New York Mets staged a thrilling 6-5 comeback victory over their rivals, the Philadelphia Phillies, to level the score in Major League Baseball’s two-game London Series. In the opening game at London Stadium on Saturday, the Phillies dominated with a 7-2 win. However, the second encounter, less than 24 hours later, proved to be a much closer contest. The New York Mets rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game in the sixth inning, only for the Phillies to regain the lead with a solo home run from David Dahl.
While it appeared the Phillies would clinch the series with their ninth win in eight games, the Mets seized on Jose Alvarado’s inaccuracy, taking a 6-4 lead in the final inning. Despite scoring once more with their final three outs, the Phillies were on the verge of forcing an extra inning. However, their comeback bid faltered when Nick Castellanos grounded into a dramatic game-ending double play. The Phillies, designated as the home team for the series, saw Wrexham co-owner and Philadelphia native Rob McElhenney throw the ceremonial first pitch.
This represents the third MLB series held in London, following the New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox in 2019 and the Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals in 2023.
