AC Milan Entrusts Paulo Fonseca to Lead New Era of Success

AC Milan has appointed Paulo Fonseca as their new manager, succeeding Stefano Pioli who departed by mutual consent. The 51-year-old Portuguese, who recently managed French club Lille from 2022 to 2024, has inked a three-year contract that extends until 2027.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the new role, Fonseca stated, “I am proud to take on the responsibility of managing AC Milan. I am committed to upholding the club’s prestigious history and aiming for excellence together with the team. My goal is to contribute to a new era of success that our incredible fans can celebrate.”

Fonseca’s departure from Lille occurred after the team finished fourth in Ligue 1, narrowly missing out on a direct entry to the Champions League. Additionally, Lille’s journey in the Europa Conference League ended in disappointment as they lost to Aston Villa in the quarter-finals via penalties.

Prior to his tenure at Lille, Fonseca managed prominent clubs such as Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk and Porto. His managerial achievements include winning the Portuguese Super Cup with Porto in 2013 and securing the Ukrainian league and cup double on three occasions with Shakhtar.

With a wealth of experience across top European leagues and a track record of success in domestic competitions, Fonseca brings a seasoned approach to AC Milan. The club looks forward to leveraging his tactical acumen and leadership to rejuvenate their pursuit of trophies and strengthen their competitive standing in Serie A and European competitions.
