Fabian Hurzeler took charge of St Pauli in December 2022.
Fabian Hurzeler, the 31-year-old manager of St Pauli, has been identified by Brighton Football Club as the frontrunner to succeed Roberto de Zerbi as their new manager. The two clubs are currently in negotiations, and Brighton has already secured a work permit for Hurzeler. However, they have not yet reached a final agreement at this stage.
Hurzeler, a US-born coach, achieved significant success with St Pauli last season, guiding them to the German second division title and securing their promotion to the Bundesliga after a 13-year absence. If appointed, Hurzeler would become the youngest manager in the Premier League since its inception in 1992.
Notably, Hurzeler is younger than several of Brighton’s senior players including James Milner (38), Danny Welbeck (33) and Lewis Dunk (32). His youthfulness brings a fresh perspective and potentially a different managerial approach to the club.
Brighton’s owner, Tony Bloom, and chief executive, Paul Barber, have been leading the managerial search, which has now entered its final stages. The club officially announced on May 18th that Italian manager Roberto de Zerbi would be departing at the end of the Premier League season.
The potential appointment of Fabian Hurzeler represents a strategic move by Brighton to inject new energy and ideas into the team. His success at St Pauli has caught the attention of clubs across Europe and Brighton is eager to secure his services as they aim to strengthen their position in the Premier League.
As negotiations progress, both parties will be keen to reach an agreement that benefits all involved and sets the stage for a successful tenure under Hurzeler’s leadership at Brighton Football Club.
