Barrow caused an upset by knocking Championship team Derby County out of the Carabao Cup with a 3-2 win on penalties following a goalless draw at Holker Street. Goalkeeper Paul Farman emerged as the hero of the match, making crucial saves that secured Barrow’s spot in the third round of the competition for the first time since the 1967-68 season.

The game ended in a stalemate with both teams unable to break the deadlock during regular play. In the ensuing penalty shootout, Derby’s James Collins and Kayden Jackson missed their chances while Paul Farman saved Craig Forsyth’s penalty to seal the victory for Barrow. Barrow’s successful performance came on the back of a commanding 4-0 league win against Port Vale on Saturday.

Despite being two divisions below Derby, Barrow proved to be a formidable opponent in the first half. Striker Gerard Garner came close to scoring with a sharp volley that required a low save from Derby’s Jacob Zetterstrom. In the second half, Derby made three substitutions and looked more threatening. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Kayden Jackson both tested Farman with long-range shots.

Barrow nearly clinched the game before the end of regular time when Kian Spence’s free-kick hit the crossbar. Although Spence missed his penalty in the shootout, Barrow’s successful spot-kicks from Ben Jackson, Robbie Gotts and David Worrall ensured their advancement. Derby County’s search for their first away win of the season continues.

Meanwhile, Barrow eagerly awaits the third-round draw which will include the remaining Premier League teams.
