Serge Gnabry scored a late winner to secure Bayern Munich’s 3-2 victory over Wolfsburg in Vincent Kompany’s debut Bundesliga match as manager. Gnabry’s decisive goal came in the 82nd minute, as he fired a low shot off the post after being set up by Harry Kane. Bayern initially took the lead through Jamal Musiala, who scored from close range after Sacha Boey made a strong run through the Wolfsburg defense and delivered a precise cross.
Despite Bayern’s dominance, Wolfsburg’s debutant goalkeeper, Kamil Grabara put on an impressive display, denying several attempts from Gnabry and even blocking a header from Kane while wearing a face mask. The game turned just after halftime when Boey conceded a penalty for fouling Tiago Tomas, and Lovro Majer calmly slotted the spot-kick into the bottom corner to level the score.
Wolfsburg quickly took the lead when Patrick Wimmer capitalized on a mistake by Kim Min-jae and set up Majer for his second goal. Bayern’s response came after Thomas Muller entered the game as a second-half substitute, setting a new club record with his 474th Bundesliga appearance surpassing legendary goalkeeper Sepp Maier. Muller’s presence led to Bayern’s equalizer as Jakub Kaminski accidentally turned the ball into his own net under pressure.
With the match heading towards a draw, Serge Gnabry struck late to ensure a winning start for Vincent Kompany, who took over as Bayern’s manager after leaving Burnley following their relegation from the Premier League. The victory marked a positive beginning for Kompany’s tenure at Bayern as his team showed resilience to overcome Wolfsburg’s challenge and secure all three points.
