Arsenal Dominates Sporting 5-1 in Champions League Return

Arsenal returned to winning ways in the Champions League with a dominant 5-1 victory over Sporting at Estádio José Alvalade. Saka converted a penalty after Ousmane Diomande fouled Martin Ødegaard in the box and Trossard added a fifth after a rebound from Mikel Merino’s strike.

Saka’s involvement in the win was significant, providing an assist for Havertz’s goal and converting from the spot for his 11th goal involvement in the Champions League (six goals, five assists). Notably, Arsenal’s fast start and clinical finishing were key to their victory. Arteta praised the team’s purposeful play emphasizing the importance of consistency. Consequently, the result lifted them to seventh in the table and the victory ended a five-match winless run in away games in the competition.

On the other hand, Sporting, who had been unbeaten at home all season suffered their first defeat. Striker Viktor Gyökeres was unable to break through the Arsenal defense while goalkeeper David Raya made several crucial saves to keep Arsenal in control throughout the match.
