Bayern Munich Extend Winning Streak, Beat PSG 1-0

Bayern Munich strengthened their bid for a top-eight finish in the Champions League with a 1-0 victory over Paris St-Germain, who remain winless in the competition since September. Kim Min-jae scored the only goal of the match just before halftime, heading in from close range after PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov mishandled Joshua Kimmich’s inswinging corner.

PSG’s frustration grew when Ousmane Dembele, already on a yellow card for dissent was sent off in the second half for a late challenge on Alphonso Davies. Bayern nearly doubled their lead when Safonov made a superb fingertip save to deny Jamal Musiala’s shot which hit the post. However, Kim’s header proved sufficient for Bayern’s victory.

Bayern dominated possession throughout the match with Musiala coming close early on but shooting straight at Safonov. PSG’s Warren Zaire-Emery should have capitalized on a cutback from Fabian Ruiz and Dembele tested Manuel Neuer with a fine shot in the first half but PSG wasted their chances.

The result marked Bayern’s seventh consecutive win in all competitions without conceding a goal, a first since September 2011 under Jupp Heynckes. Harry Kane fresh off a hat-trick in the Bundesliga had a quiet night. He failed to register a shot or touch in PSG’s box in the first half and missed a chance to assist Kingsley Coman in the second.

Kane also had an effort blocked by Willian Pacho but did not add to his tally of five Champions League goals this seasonFor PSG, this defeat leaves them with just three goals from five group-stage matches, highlighting their ongoing struggles in the competition.
