Bayern Munich’s Champions League Hopes Dented

Bayern Munich’s hopes of securing a direct qualification spot for the Champions League knockout stages suffered a setback as they lost 3-0 to Feyenoord. A win would have brought Bayern closer to securing their place in the top eight but the loss left them 15th in the standings, just one point outside the qualifying spots with one game remaining. The match briefly paused due to smoke from flares affecting visibility on the pitch.
Once play resumed, Bayern looked sluggish and fell behind midway through the first half when Santiago Gimenez capitalized on a run into the box, beating Manuel Neuer to give Feyenoord the lead. Bayern had a chance to equalize when Justin Bijlow, Feyenoord’s goalkeeper, denied Harry Kane with a brilliant save. That save proved crucial as Feyenoord extended their lead just before halftime.
Calvin Stengs drew a foul in the box, and Gimenez confidently converted the resulting penalty to make it 2-0. In the second half, Bayern pushed for a comeback but Bijlow continued to shine, making a fingertip save to deny Jamal Musiala. As the match progressed, Feyenoord sealed the win when Ayase Ueda slotted in a late goal to make it 3-0.
The result leaves Bayern with an uphill battle to secure a top-eight finish. They now face Slovan Bratislava in their final group game next Wednesday. Feyenoord, on the other hand, strengthened their chances of qualifying, moving up to 11th place in the standings and leveling on 13 points with eighth-placed Bayer Leverkusen. They will travel to Lille for their final league-phase match.
