Brest Dominates Red Bull Salzburg 4-0 in Champions League

Brest continued their remarkable Champions League campaign with a dominant 4-0 victory over Red Bull Salzburg maintaining their perfect start in Europe. Despite being newcomers to the competition, Brest delivered a clinical away performance, opening the scoring in the 24th minute when Abdallah Sima coolly finished a counterattack. Though Salzburg applied pressure, Brest doubled their lead in the 66th minute when Mahdi Camara seized on a loose ball.

He then fired it into the far corner with just their second shot on target. Sima on loan from Brighton and formerly at Rangers added his second and Brest’s third just four minutes later, slotting in a rebound after Salzburg goalkeeper Janis Blaswich failed to fully block Hugo Magnetti’s attempt. Substitute Mathias Pereira Lage capped off the victory shortly after entering the game, curling in a fine strike to make it 4-0 with 15 minutes remaining.

The win was another milestone for Brest, a club that was playing amateur football just over 20 years ago and has never claimed a major domestic trophy. After finishing third in Ligue 1 last season, Brest qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history. They won their opening group match 2-1 against Sturm Graz in September and now sit in a strong position in the competition.

Despite their success in Europe, Brest currently holds a mid-table position in Ligue 1, sitting 13th after six games. Salzburg on the other hand, remain winless in the Champions League group stage after a 3-0 loss to Sparta Prague in their opener. The Austrian side had a goal ruled out at 0-0 after VAR determined that Lucas Gourna-Douath had obstructed Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot during the play.

Brest’s win highlights their rapid rise and strong form in their European debut.
