Bukayo Saka Shines as Arsenal Defeats Monaco 3-0

Bukayo Saka scored twice as Arsenal secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Monaco, bolstering their chances of advancing to the knockout stages of the Champions League. The Gunners dominated the first half but squandered several opportunities to extend their lead. They opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Myles Lewis-Skelly set up Gabriel Jesus, who crossed for Saka to tap in.

In the 74th minute, substitute Kai Havertz capitalized on a mistake by Monaco goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki, allowing Saka to score from close range. Bukayo Saka then assisted Havertz for the third goal just two minutes before the final whistle. Despite their late surge, Arsenal could have scored more with Gabriel Jesus denied twice by Majecki and Martin Odegaard missing a clear chance after intercepting a loose pass.

Gabriel Martinelli also failed to convert a good opportunity, curling his shot wide. After the break, Arsenal’s missed chances nearly came back to haunt them when Thilo Kehrer headed wide from a free-kick. Monaco’s Takumi Minamino and Breel Embolo also threatened but Arsenal’s defense held firm.

The Gunners, now third in their group with 13 points are in a strong position heading into their final two group stage matches against Dinamo Zagreb and Girona. Despite concerns over injuries with key players like Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber missing training, Partey started the match and Timber was included on the bench.

The young Lewis-Skelly, 18 made his debut at left-back. Arsenal’s defense has been impressive, conceding only two goals in six Champions League matches, giving manager Mikel Arteta hope for a deep run in the tournament this season.
