Florian Wirtz Nets Brace in Leverkusen’s Win Over Feyenoord

Florian Wirtz shone in his Champions League debut scoring twice as Bayer Leverkusen secured a comfortable victory over Feyenoord. The German side took an early lead in the fifth minute when Wirtz expertly placed a shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards out. Xabi Alonso’s wing-backs played a crucial role in the second goal with Jeremie Frimpong crossing the ball to Alex Grimaldo, who finished it off with a well-placed shot.

Frimpong later assisted Florian Wirtz again, setting him up for a volley that marked his second goal of the match. Leverkusen extended their lead before halftime when Edmond Tapsoba’s header was accidentally deflected into his own net by Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther sealing a dominant first half for the Bundesliga team. Despite Leverkusen having fewer shots than their opponents, they displayed clinical finishing throughout the match.

This victory marked Feyenoord’s first defeat since Dane Brian Priske took over as manager, following the departure of Arne Slot to Liverpool. Leverkusen’s performance highlighted their strength in the competition and Wirtz’s impressive debut promises exciting potential for the rest of the season.

As they progress in their Champions League campaign, the team aims to build on this strong start. They seek to further establish their dominance on the European stage.
