Liverpool fan Philip Dooley, 51, tragically lost his life after a vehicle struck him in Bergamo, Italy. Dooley had traveled to Italy to support Liverpool in their Champions League match against AC Milan. Merseyside Police informed Dooley’s next of kin and are assisting Italian authorities with their investigation. Two witnesses who saw the incident are cooperating with the local police.
Liverpool FC expressed deep sorrow over Dooley’s death. To honor their fan, Liverpool players wore black armbands during their match. Representatives from both Liverpool and AC Milan placed flowers on what would have been Dooley’s seat at the stadium as a tribute.
The club posted a heartfelt message on X, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of our supporter Philip Dooley, following a road traffic accident in Bergamo. The thoughts and prayers of everyone connected to the club are with Philip’s family, friends, and fellow supporters at this extremely difficult time.”
Liverpool FC also noted that their staff in Milan actively work with local police and the consulate to support other fans affected by the incident. The club concluded their statement with, “Rest in peace, Philip.” This tragic event casts a shadow over Liverpool’s Champions League match.
