Malik Tillman starred for PSV Eindhoven as they defeated 10-man Girona 4-1 in the Champions League. Tillman scored and assisted in a dominant performance, helping the Eredivisie leaders secure their biggest Champions League win since 1992. PSV took the lead early through Ryan Flamingo, who connected with a long throw-in from Tillman and volleyed the ball past Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga from close range.
Although the throw-in appeared to cross the touchline, VAR did not intervene allowing the goal to stand. Malik Tillman then doubled PSV’s advantage with a fine strike from the left wing, curling a low shot past Gazzaniga’s near post. The match shifted further in PSV’s favor when the referee reduced Girona to 10 men early in the second half. He showed Arnau Martinez a second yellow card for fouling Noa Lang on the edge of the box.
Ismael Saibari thought he had added a third goal for PSV but VAR ruled it out for a foul on defender Olivier Boscagli. Johan Bakayoko secured the victory with a precise finish into the bottom corner. PSV capped off their 4-1 victory when Boscagli accidentally deflected a shot from Saibari into his own net after Gazzaniga made a save.
The win propelled PSV to five points in Group B, moving them above Girona, who remain on three points. This victory marked a crucial step in PSV’s quest to qualify for the knockout stages. In the next round, PSV will face Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk while Girona will travel to Austria to take on Sturm Graz.
