Paulo Gazzaniga Howler Gifts PSG Win Over Girona

Paulo Gazzaniga the goalkeeper for Girona made a crucial late mistake enabling Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to claim a narrow victory over the Champions League newcomers. The decisive moment occurred when Portuguese left-back Nuno Mendes fired a low shot from a tight angle. Paulo Gazzaniga mishandled the shot allowing the ball to slip through his fingers and into the net.

Throughout the match, Girona demonstrated solid defensive organization which challenged PSG to break them down. Despite PSG’s dominance and 26 shots, the team struggled to find the net. France forward Ousmane Dembele had notable opportunities but faced a blocked shot from the crossbar and a crucial tackle from Girona’s Ladislav Krejci. Girona’s defensive resilience and effective passing made it difficult for PSG to create clear-cut chances.

The Spanish side, debuting in Europe’s premier competition after a strong third-place finish in La Liga last season, played a disciplined game and effectively contained PSG’s offensive efforts for most of the match. However, their defensive work fell apart due to Gazzaniga’s late mistake which allowed PSG to secure a win they had fought hard to achieve.

Luis Enrique’s PSG team, despite struggling to find an opener finally broke through in the dying moments of the game. Girona will face Feyenoord on October 2 in their league phase match while PSG will travel to Arsenal on October 1 for their upcoming fixture. This late lapse underscored Girona’s struggle to balance defensive solidity with attacking threat in their Champions League debut.
