Robert Lewandowski continued his sensational form, scoring twice as Barcelona cruised to a 4-1 victory over Red Star Belgrade, earning their third consecutive Champions League win. The 36-year-old striker now has 19 goals in 16 appearances this season and is just one goal away from becoming the third player in history to score 100 Champions League goals, following Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Barcelona dominated the match, despite a brief setback when Silas Katompa Mvumpa’s surprise strike canceled out Inigo Martinez’s 13th-minute header. However, Lewandowski reacted quickly to Raphinha’s rebound shot, giving Barcelona a 2-1 lead before halftime. Early in the second half, Lewandowski and Raphinha scored two quick goals to seal the victory.
Jules Kounde assisted both players and later set up Fermin Lopez for Barcelona’s fourth goal. Red Star’s Milson scored a late consolation goal with a superb curled finish but the Serbian side remained pointless, sitting 35th in the table. Lewandowski’s brace lifted Barcelona to sixth place in the new 36-team league format. With his 99 Champions League goals, he is poised to reach his century when Barcelona hosts Brest later this month.
Despite missing some chances including one early in the second half, Robert Lewandowski’s performance helped Barcelona extend their impressive winning streak to seven matches with 29 goals scored during that run. Barcelona’s attack, led by Lewandowski has been relentless and they now sit nine points clear at the top of La Liga.
This victory marks the first time since the 1959-60 season that Barcelona has scored four or more goals in three consecutive Champions League matches.
