Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus praised rookie quarterback Caleb Williams for his exceptional learning ability which he believes sets him apart from other first-year quarterbacks. Selected first overall in this year’s draft, Williams showcased his talents during a 35-16 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, throwing four touchdown passes and leading the Bears to their third consecutive win.

Despite a rocky start with the team trailing in the first quarter at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Williams shone brighter than Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Eberflus emphasized Williams’ desire to improve and adapt, stating, “This year’s a big year for him.” Williams has steadily enhanced his understanding of the game, the Bears’ offense and his teammates’ skills which allows for greater offensive expansion as the season progresses.

Entering the game with a 3-2 record, Williams had thrown five touchdowns over the first five games but exploded with four touchdowns against Jacksonville alone. He also showcased his running ability, gaining 56 yards on the ground at an impressive 14 yards per carry, a personal best. His pass completion rate jumped significantly from 48.3% on his debut to 79.3% against the Jaguars demonstrating his rapid growth.

After the game, Williams acknowledged the need for improvement, particularly regarding turnovers as he threw his first interception in three games. However, he remains optimistic about the team’s progress and the contributions from his teammates, especially the offensive line. Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet expressed confidence in Williams’ growing abilities, calling him a “special talent.”

Former NFL cornerback Jason Bell noted that Williams makes the game look easy due to his command of the offense, highlighting the excitement surrounding his development in a competitive NFC North.
