Chris Wood Extends Forest Stay with New Contract

Chris Wood, Nottingham Forest striker has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2027. The 33-year-old New Zealand international has been a standout performer this season, scoring 14 goals in 22 Premier League appearances, helping Forest to third in the standings. Wood originally joined on loan from Newcastle in January 2023 before making his move permanent in June.
Despite being at Forest for less than two years, Wood is their leading Premier League goalscorer, surpassing Bryan Roy’s record of 24 goals in December. Wood expressed his excitement about the new deal, praising the club’s ambition and the support of the fans. He said he was looking forward to spending more years at Forest, a club he feels has great potential. Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis also lauded Wood for his dedication, highlighting his hard work, winning mentality and role as a role model for the team.
Wood’s form has been instrumental in Forest’s successful season which includes a strong push for a Champions League spot. Since the arrival of manager Nuno Espirito Santo in December 2023, Wood has flourished with 25 of his 29 league goals for Forest coming under the Portuguese boss. This season, Wood is one of the top scorers in the Premier League, behind only Alexander Isak, Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah.
Having made his international debut in 2009, Chris Wood has scored 34 goals in 74 appearances for New Zealand. His career in England started in 2009 with West Brom but he found success at Leeds, Burnley and then Newcastle before his move to Forest. With his new contract in place, Wood is poised to continue playing a key role in Forest’s ambitious plans, potentially extending his career into his 40s.
