Dak Prescott Becomes NFL's Highest-Paid Player

Dak Prescott has secured a historic contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys making him the highest-paid player in NFL history. Prescott, 31, has signed a four-year extension worth $240 million ($183 million) including a record $231 million in guaranteed money and an $80 million signing bonus. This new deal elevates Prescott’s annual salary to $60 million surpassing the $55 million average annual salaries of Joe Burrow, Jordan Love and Trevor Lawrence.

The guaranteed portion of Prescott’s contract is also unprecedented, exceeding the $230 million given to Deshaun Watson by the Cleveland Browns in 2022. The deal which will keep Prescott with the Cowboys through the end of the 2028 season was announced shortly before Dallas’s 33-17 season opener victory over the Browns. After the game, Prescott expressed his desire to shift focus away from contract discussions and concentrate on team success.

He threw for 179 yards and a touchdown in the win. Prescott a three-time Pro Bowl selection had a standout year last season leading the league with 36 touchdown passes and 410 completions while finishing second in MVP voting. This contract extension follows a summer of uncertainty about new deals for Prescott and star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

Lamb has also signed a four-year, $136 million contract with the Cowboys. Despite Prescott’s prolific passing and leading the Cowboys to three consecutive 12-win seasons and playoff appearances, his playoff record remains mixed with only two wins in seven postseason games and no progress beyond the divisional round. With the Cowboys enduring a 30-year Super Bowl drought, they hope Dak Prescott will finally lead them to championship success.
