Dani Olmo and Pau Victor's Barcelona Registration Rejected
Dani Olmo and Pau Victor have had Barcelona’s request to register them for the second half of the season rejected by Spain’s football authorities. La Liga’s wage-cap restrictions initially registered the two summer signings only until the end of December, and now their registrations remain unresolved. Both players may stay sidelined until the summer with Olmo a key figure in Spain’s European Championship victory last summer, possibly facing an uncertain future.
The 26-year-old Dani Olmo joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig for around £51 million and has become a regular in the first team. In contrast, 23-year-old Victor, who joined from Girona has made limited appearances this season, mostly as a substitute. A joint statement from La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed that they rejected Barcelona’s request to re-register the duo. The statement explained that the monitoring committee did not grant approval or the required license for Olmo and Victor.
While the authorities acknowledged Barcelona’s improved financial situation, they stated that the club cannot re-register players in the same season their initial registration was canceled. Barcelona had previously faced rejections from two courts for similar requests and reports suggest the club may seek further action by appealing to the Spanish government in an attempt to extend the players’ registrations.
However, Barcelona has yet to comment on this latest development. Currently sitting third in La Liga, five points behind leaders Real Madrid, Barcelona’s ongoing financial challenges have disrupted their plans for the second half of the season.
