Daniel Jones Ends Tenure with New York Giants

Daniel Jones has parted ways with the New York Giants after the team “mutually agreed” to terminate his contract less than two years after he signed a $160 million extension. The decision follows a disappointing season for Jones, who lost his starting quarterback position earlier this week. The Giants with a 2-8 record have struggled and lost their last five games.

The Giants drafted Jones as the sixth overall pick in 2019 and rewarded him with a four-year, $160 million deal in 2023 making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL at the time. However, his performance in 2024 has been underwhelming as he ranks 32nd in passer rating among all qualified quarterbacks.

He has thrown just eight touchdowns and seven interceptions this season which led the team to bench him in favor of Tommy DeVito an undrafted free agent who has now become the starting quarterback. Giants president John Mara spoke highly of Jones despite the disappointing outcome, praising his professionalism and character.

“Daniel has been a great representative of our organisation, first class in every way,” Mara said. “We are all disappointed in how things have worked out and we hold Daniel in high regard. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

Although his tenure with the Giants ended, Daniel Jones remains highly regarded for his leadership and the way he handled a difficult situation. As the Giants continue to rebuild, Jones’ future in the NFL remains uncertain but he will likely seek a new opportunity to restart his career.
