Ed Sheeran apologized for interrupting Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim during an interview after the team’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town. The British singer-songwriter faced backlash on social media after stepping onto the pitch while Amorim was being interviewed by Sky Sports’ Kelly Cates, accompanied by pundits Roy Keane, Izzy Christiansen and Jamie Redknapp. Sheeran, who is a minority owner of Ipswich Town, briefly interrupted the interview to greet Redknapp before leaving the area.
Fans criticized Sheeran’s actions with some considering them disrespectful to Amorim. Sheeran took to Instagram to express his regret, explaining that he hadn’t realized the interview was taking place at the time. He offered his apologies to Amorim, stating, “Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday. I was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie. Great game, congrats to all involved.”
The incident occurred during a highly anticipated match that saw Amorim make his debut as Manchester United’s manager. Despite the 1-1 draw, the match marked a significant moment for Amorim, beginning his managerial career with the club. Sheeran’s apology aimed to address the incident, though some fans remained divided on whether the interruption was innocent or inconsiderate.
Nonetheless, Ed Sheeran’s gesture to clarify the misunderstanding seemed to settle the matter especially as he praised the game and congratulated all involved.
