Alex Iwobi Brace Secures Fulham’s 3-1 Win Over Brighton
Alex Iwobi scored twice to lead Fulham to a 3-1 win over Brighton at a rainy Craven Cottage, handing Brighton their third Premier League defeat of the season. Matt O’Riley also scored an own goal, sealing the victory for the hosts. The match began disastrously for Brighton when goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen made a costly mistake. Just three minutes in, Alex Iwobi intercepted Verbruggen’s short pass and calmly slotted the ball into an empty net for his fourth league goal of the season.
Brighton came close to conceding again soon after but Igor Julio made a crucial defensive clearance. They bounced back in the second half, leveling the score in the 56th minute. Joao Pedro cleverly set up Joao Baleba, who fired a low shot from 20 yards and celebrated with an acrobatic somersault. Despite the equalizer, Brighton couldn’t push on for a winner. Fulham regained the lead in the 79th minute when Andreas Pereira’s corner deflected off Matt O’Riley into his own net.
Iwobi sealed the win in the 87th minute with a powerful strike for his second goal ensuring Fulham climbed to sixth in the table just a point behind Brighton. Brighton had hoped to move into fourth place with a win but their slow start and missed chances in the first half cost them. Without their top scorer Danny Welbeck due to injury, Simon Adingra missed two good opportunities including one blocked by Bernd Leno. Brighton failed to secure the win which meant they dropped points in their bid to climb higher.
Meanwhile, Fulham secured vital points before facing tough matches against Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea. The victory was overshadowed by an injury to Reiss Nelson, who had to leave the field after pulling a hamstring.
