Alexander Isak Scores Again as Newcastle Beat 10-Men Villa
Alexander Isak continued his impressive form as Newcastle secured a 3-0 win over 10-man Aston Villa, moving into fifth place in the Premier League. The hosts took the lead after just 80 seconds when Anthony Gordon curled in a finish, following an interception and a fast break by Joelinton and Sandro Tonali. Villa’s hopes were dashed in the 32nd minute when Jhon Duran received a red card for stamping on Fabian Schar, a decision that enraged Villa manager Unai Emery.
Duran, frustrated by the red card, denied intent and later faced further punishment for violent conduct. Newcastle capitalized on the numerical advantage early in the second half. Isak converted Jacob Murphy’s cross for his 11th Premier League goal of the season, giving the Magpies a 2-0 lead. Joelinton sealed the victory in the 92nd minute, curling in a third goal after Villa made a mistake in midfield.
This victory extends Newcastle’s strong run, marking their third consecutive league win and fourth straight overall. Since a 4-2 loss at Brentford in early December, the Magpies have scored 14 goals in four games including two 4-0 league wins and a Carabao Cup triumph. Manager Eddie Howe praised the attacking form of his side, particularly Alexander Isak, who has been in exceptional form.
For Villa, the defeat marked a fifth straight away loss, and Duran’s red card leaves them with a tough upcoming schedule as they will miss him for their next three matches. Despite a few close calls including saves from Emiliano Martinez and a disallowed goal, Villa struggled to mount a comeback. Newcastle dominated, highlighting their recent resurgence and continued hopes for a European spot next season.
