Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola expressed frustration despite his side salvaging a dramatic 2-2 draw against West Ham, courtesy of a stunning last-minute free-kick from substitute Enes Ünal. Iraola praised Ünal’s practice and skill, noting, “Everyone knows he can do that. If it wasn’t a goal, it would have been close.” However, he was infuriated by the penalty decision that allowed Lucas Paqueta to give West Ham a late lead.

VAR advised referee Chris Kavanagh to review Tyler Adams’ handball, a ruling Iraola felt contradicted pre-season guidance about natural arm positions while defending. Bournemouth dominated the match, recording 29 shots but were repeatedly denied by West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski. The veteran keeper made crucial saves throughout, notably stopping efforts from Dango Ouattara, Justin Kluivert, Ryan Christie and Philip Billing.

Despite hitting the post early through Antoine Semenyo, Bournemouth’s lack of clinical finishing proved costly once again, a recurring issue for Iraola’s otherwise impressive side. For West Ham, the draw provides slight relief for manager Julen Lopetegui following their recent win over Wolves. Jarrod Bowen playing centrally in Michail Antonio’s absence was a key attacking threat. Bowen nearly opened the scoring, hitting the crossbar after smart movement to create space.

The penalty converted confidently by Paqueta appeared to secure West Ham’s victory but Ünal’s late brilliance denied them. The result lifts Bournemouth into the top six while West Ham remain in 14th place having avoided defeat in consecutive league games for only the third time this season. Although Bournemouth dominated the game, Iraola’s frustrations stem from the controversial penalty decision and his team’s inability to convert chances into goals, despite a spirited and relentless performance.
