Bournemouth pulled off a shock 2-1 victory over Manchester City, ending the Premier League champions’ 32-game unbeaten league streak dating back to December 2023. Goals from Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson secured the Cherries’ first-ever win over City, who suffered their second defeat in four days following a midweek Carabao Cup exit. Bournemouth, buoyed by recent positive results, started brightly.

Within two minutes, City’s goalkeeper Ederson made a double save to deny Semenyo and Justin Kluivert. Bournemouth’s intense pressing paid off early when Milos Kerkez’s cut-back found Semenyo, who outmaneuvered Josko Gvardiol to slot past Ederson in the ninth minute. City struggled to break Bournemouth’s high press, failing to register a shot on target in a frustrating first half.

In the second half, Bournemouth doubled their lead as Evanilson converted another low cross from Kerkez. They nearly extended their advantage further but Adam Smith missed an open goal after Marcus Tavernier’s shot hit the post. City finally responded late with Gvardiol heading in from a set piece in the 82nd minute. Erling Haaland nearly rescued a point in stoppage time but his rebound hit the post after a close-range effort was saved.

This win moves Bournemouth up to eighth while City’s defeat drops them to second behind Liverpool. Bournemouth’s determined team performance particularly from standout players Semenyo and Kerkez saw them withstand City’s late pressure to secure a historic victory. Meanwhile, Guardiola’s City appeared out of sync with injuries exposing a weakened squad and hampering their usual attacking fluidity.

Despite City’s attempts to rally, Bournemouth’s resolute defense held firm for a deserved win, breaking a 21-game losing streak in meetings with City.
