Bournemouth staged a dramatic late comeback to defeat Ipswich 2-1 at Portman Road, moving up to eighth in the Premier League and just three points off fourth place. Ipswich, who were on the verge of securing their first home win since 2002, led 1-0 thanks to Conor Chaplin’s first-half goal. However, Bournemouth, who had struggled to break down Ipswich’s defense, came to life in the final minutes with two goals from substitutes.
Ipswich dominated the first half, with Chaplin scoring a composed opener and Cameron Burgess heading just over the bar. Bournemouth’s best chances came early but Marcus Tavernier failed to score from close range and his shot later struck the post. Despite Bournemouth’s possession and attempts, Ipswich’s defense remained resolute. After the break, Bournemouth increased the pressure but still couldn’t find the breakthrough until the 87th minute when Enes Unal equalized, beating Burgess to a cross.
Ipswich, trying to secure the win, lost focus, and Bournemouth capitalized. In the fifth minute of added time, a flowing move ended with Dango Ouattara scoring the winner after David Brooks’ shot was parried into his path. The win lifted Bournemouth to eighth while Ipswich still searching for a home win this season, stayed in 18th, four points from safety. Ipswich’s poor home form continues and they struggle to replicate their success on the road.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s third consecutive win suggests they could be in the hunt for a European spot. In other news, Ipswich confirmed that club ambassador Simon Milton, who fell ill during the match is stable and in good spirits after the medical team took him to the hospital.
