Bournemouth’s European Dream Alive After 3-0 Win

Bournemouth’s 3-0 win at Manchester United was hailed as a remarkable achievement by Andoni Iraola, who noted that it’s rare to win by such a margin at Old Trafford. This victory marked the second time in a year that Bournemouth has dismantled United at their home ground, following their first-ever win there in December 2023. On Sunday, 19-year-old Dean Huijsen put Bournemouth ahead followed by a penalty from Justin Kluivert and a third goal from Antoine Semenyo sealing the victory for the Cherries.

The win catapulted Bournemouth to fifth in the Premier League, their highest-ever position at this stage of the season. They now have 28 points from 17 games, six more than at the same point last year and are just three points off the top four. Iraola, who took over as head coach in June 2023 has seen the team make significant strides, building on their highest-ever points tally from last season. Bournemouth’s recent wins include victories over Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham.

Despite being without key players like Marcos Senesi and Dominic Solanke, Bournemouth has remained resilient, winning four of their last five matches. Huijsen, signed from Juventus in the summer has been instrumental, scoring twice in recent games. Kluivert with six goals, is the team’s leading scorer. Iraola acknowledged that the team is not tall but their defensive structure and workrate have been key to their success.

Bournemouth’s recent performances, combined with their aspirations to qualify for Europe, have generated excitement among fans. Owner Bill Foley has set a goal for the club to reach the top eight or nine this season and eventually qualify for Europe. If Bournemouth continues their impressive form, their European dreams might soon become a reality.
