Bruno Fernandes Sent Off as Wolves Beat United 2-0

Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United’s captain, received his third red card of the season as Wolves secured a 2-0 victory, continuing their perfect start under new manager Vitor Pereira. Fernandes, already on a yellow card, was dismissed early in the second half for a reckless tackle. Wolves capitalized 11 minutes later when Matheus Cunha scored directly from a corner, a near-repeat of United’s recent defensive woes against set-pieces. In added time, as United pushed for an equalizer, Cunha unselfishly set up Hwang Hee-chan to seal the win.

United’s defensive fragility remains a glaring issue with five defeats in seven games across all competitions. Manager Ruben Amorim, who has collected just seven points in six league matches, faces mounting pressure as his side sits eight points above the relegation zone. They will now be without Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte for their next match against Newcastle. For Wolves, the result marked their first home win over United since 2019. Pereira with six points from his first two games, credited Cunha’s individual brilliance.

The Brazilian’s audacious corner attempt paid off after narrowly missing earlier in the match. Cunha also dazzled with his skill and creativity, earning praise from Pereira and his teammates. Wolves’ resurgence under Pereira contrasts sharply with United’s struggles. Expected to make progress this season under co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United’s campaign risks unraveling. Goalkeeper Andre Onana, despite some strong performances, continues to struggle with commanding his penalty area during set-pieces, inviting comparisons to David de Gea’s early vulnerabilities.

As United prepare for tough matches against Newcastle and Liverpool, the pressure on Amorim and his players intensifies. With just eight points separating them from the drop zone, United’s season is dangerously close to derailing.
