Chelsea 2-2 Bournemouth: James Strikes Late

Chelsea captain Reece James marked his Premier League return with a dramatic stoppage-time equalizer, securing a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. James sidelined for much of the season with hamstring injuries, delivered a precise low free-kick in the fifth minute of added time, rescuing a point for the Blues. Chelsea started strong with Cole Palmer opening the scoring in the 13th minute after deceiving Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers with a feint.

Despite dominating the first half, Chelsea were pegged back early in the second when Moises Caicedo fouled Antoine Semenyo, allowing Justin Kluivert to equalize from the penalty spot. The Cherries took the lead in the 68th minute with Semenyo’s powerful strike off the post leaving Chelsea chasing the game. However, James introduced in the 56th minute, made the decisive impact, curling in a 20-yard free kick to level the match.

Bournemouth, who are enjoying a club-record nine-match unbeaten run, nearly claimed all three points. Lewis Cook’s shot from a corner was saved and Justin Kluivert came close to scoring again but was denied by a block. Bournemouth were also fortunate not to go down to 10 men when David Brooks received only a yellow card after a VAR review for striking Marc Cucurella. Chelsea remain fourth in the table, 10 points behind leaders Liverpool while Bournemouth sit seventh, three points back.

Despite the draw, Chelsea will rue missed chances including Nicolas Jackson hitting the post and firing into the side netting in the first half. James’ return, capped by his late goal was a highlight for Chelsea while Bournemouth continued their strong campaign under Andoni Iraola. Chelsea next host Wolves while Bournemouth face Newcastle, both teams looking to build on their performances.
