Chris Wood and Noni Madueke were the scorers as Chelsea and Nottingham Forest battled to a tactical 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. Forest opened the scoring in the 49th minute when Chris Wood finished off a well-executed set-piece involving James Ward-Prowse and Nikola Milenkovic. Chelsea quickly responded with Madueke equalizing just eight minutes later by cutting in and curling a shot past the goalkeeper.
In the second half, Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White left the field injured, casting doubt on his availability for the England squad this month. Ward-Prowse received a second yellow card for a deliberate handball leaving Forest to finish the match with ten men. A tense atmosphere erupted when Neco Williams pushed Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella, leading to further injuries including Madueke, who had to be helped off the pitch.
Despite being a man up, Chelsea struggled to find a winner. They brought on stars like Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix but efforts from Cole Palmer and Nkunku were denied by Matz Sels. Both Cucurella and Wesley Fofana picked up their fifth yellow cards, meaning they will miss the upcoming trip to Liverpool. Chelsea will also face a £25,000 fine for accumulating six yellow cards during the match.
This draw ends Chelsea’s five-game winning streak but keeps them unbeaten in the league since the season opener while Forest extends their unbeaten away run to six games, their best stretch since 1995. Under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, Forest has evolved into a more dynamic side showcasing impressive defensive capabilities while adapting to a more attacking style.
