Cole Palmer scored his seventh goal of the season, helping Chelsea secure a 2-1 victory over Newcastle and maintain their strong start. Palmer struck early in the second half, firing a clean shot from just inside the penalty area that beat goalkeeper Nick Pope at his near post. Nicolas Jackson gave Chelsea the lead in the 18th minute with a goal following a square pass from Pedro Neto which came after Palmer’s brilliant assist.
Newcastle equalized 14 minutes later with a tap-in from Alexander Isak. Isak later had a chance to score again after rounding Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez but Chelsea defenders thwarted his attempt. Chelsea believed they had won a late penalty when Christopher Nkunku went down in the box but after a review by the video assistant referee, officials overturned the decision revealing that Nkunku had slipped.
Cole Palmer’s goal marked his seventh in just nine Premier League appearances temporarily lifting Chelsea to fourth in the standings, although they returned to fifth after Arsenal’s later draw against Liverpool. Under manager Enzo Maresca, Chelsea has shown impressive form this season, winning five of their nine league games and losing only to Manchester City and Liverpool.
In contrast, Newcastle struggles in 12th place and remains winless in their last five league matches. They have not won since defeating Wolves on September 15, drawing two and losing three of their last five outings. Scoring has become a significant issue for the team with Isak’s goal being their first from open play in over seven hours. Eddie Howe’s squad must find a way to return to winning form in the Premier League soon.
