Dean Huijsen’s header secured Bournemouth’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham, lifting them above Spurs in the Premier League standings. The 19-year-old defender scored in the 17th minute heading Marcus Tavernier’s inswinging corner at the back post exposing Spurs’ vulnerability on set-pieces. The goal underscored Tottenham’s ongoing issues with defending set-pieces, visibly frustrating manager Ange Postecoglou, who shook his head on the sidelines.

Tottenham started the match strongly with Dominic Solanke, back at the Vitality Stadium after his £65m move contributing to two of their first three shots. However, after Huijsen’s goal, Spurs struggled to regain control while Bournemouth created more chances through Tavernier and Evanilson. Spurs pushed for an equalizer in the second half by bringing on captain Son Heung-min with James Maddison, Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski all trying to score.

However, they couldn’t break through and Evanilson also had a goal ruled out for offside in the closing stages. Bournemouth’s win moved them to ninth in the table, one place above Tottenham, who suffered an injury blow when Ben Davies appeared to pick up a hamstring issue. Bournemouth also faced an injury concern as defender Marcos Senesi would be sidelined for an extended period due to a severe quad injury.

Tottenham’s poor form persisted with only one win in their last six games raising questions about their mentality. Despite starting well, they lost control after conceding showing signs of anxiety and poor decision-making. Postecoglou faces challenges with key players like Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario unavailable.

Meanwhile, Dean Huijsen in just his third start of the season impressed Bournemouth fans, earning chants of support and delivering a solid performance including a vital clearance from under the bar.
