Dominic Solanke Shines as Spurs Comeback to Beat Villa 4-1

Dominic Solanke scored twice as Tottenham came from behind to defeat Aston Villa 4-1 in the Premier League. The £65 million summer signing doubled his season tally with two goals in four second-half minutes, helping Ange Postecoglou’s side rise to seventh in the table. Villa took the lead with Morgan Rogers’ goal in the 32nd minute, capitalizing on a corner that Spurs struggled to clear.

Despite Villa’s solid first-half performance which included a close call when Amadou Onana hit the post, Tottenham equalized shortly after halftime. Brennan Johnson met a superb cross from Son Heung-min to score, igniting the crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and shifting the game’s momentum. Dominic Solanke showcased his talent by lifting the ball over goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to score his first goal.

He then slotted in a second after being set up by Richarlison, effectively sealing Villa’s fate. Substitute James Maddison capped the match with a stunning free-kick deep into stoppage time, marking Tottenham’s second consecutive comeback win after they also rallied to beat Manchester City midweek in the EFL Cup. With this victory, Spurs reduced the gap to the top four, trailing fourth-placed Arsenal by just two points.

Meanwhile, Villa missed a chance to move into third. Although Tottenham have struggled for consistency this season, winning back-to-back league matches just once, they continue to demonstrate resilience having conceded the first goal in 12 of their last 14 home league games. Postecoglou expressed confidence in his team’s ability to finish strong, stating, “There is great belief in these players. We stick to our principles and when we do that, we are hard to stop.”
