Eberechi Eze Rescues Palace with Stunning Equaliser at Chelsea

Eberechi Eze scored a stunning equaliser to help Crystal Palace draw 1-1 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea, fresh from their 6-2 win over Wolves, dominated the first half. Cole Palmer’s close effort narrowly missed and Dean Henderson made a brilliant save from Noni Madueke. Nicolas Jackson broke the deadlock with a tap-in from Palmer’s cross.

Crystal Palace were fortunate to finish the first half with 11 men as Will Hughes already booked, escaped a second yellow card for a foul on Palmer. Shortly after, Eze levelled the score with a curling shot beyond Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Sanchez then made a crucial save to deny Daichi Kamada’s powerful strike, keeping the game tied. Jackson had a chance to secure a late win for Chelsea but Henderson’s sharp reflexes thwarted him.

The draw marked Crystal Palace’s first point of the season after consecutive losses while Chelsea now have four points from their opening three games. Chelsea’s summer upheaval saw the club spend £200m on 13 new players with 37 others leaving. With the transfer window closing, Chelsea can now focus solely on their performances. Jadon Sancho, their latest signing appeared to fans before the match but only Pedro Neto from the new arrivals started.

Despite a promising first half, Chelsea struggled with finishing and failed to capitalize on their chances. Jackson missed two late opportunities to secure victory, contributing to Chelsea’s ongoing search for their first home win of the 2024-25 season. Eberechi Eze continuing his impressive form from last season, played a crucial role for Palace. With Michael Olise having moved to Bayern Munich, Eze’s goal proved pivotal in turning the tide in Palace’s favour.

Despite creating few chances, Palace’s draw against Chelsea, a team they had lost to 13 times in a row provides a solid foundation for their season.
