Erik ten Hag Retains Backing Amidst United’s Struggles

Erik ten Hag, Manchester United’s manager enjoys strong backing from senior figures at Old Trafford despite recent struggles. After a disappointing eighth-place finish last season which was United’s worst since 1990, Ten Hag faced renewed pressure following a 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool. This loss dropped United to 14th in the Premier League with just three points from three games.

If United loses their upcoming match against Southampton on September 14, it will mark their worst start since the 1986-87 season, when they picked up only one point from their first four games leading to Ron Atkinson’s sacking and Sir Alex Ferguson’s appointment. Currently, Erik ten Hag has the support of the new football structure implemented by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Both CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth confirmed their support for Ten Hag before the Liverpool match. They emphasized their commitment to working closely with him to achieve the best results. Ashworth, who joined the club on July 1 focused on the transfer window and oversaw 32 deals including significant signings and contract renewals.

Despite a high-profile exit involving Jadon Sancho, United is still managing a portion of his salary but sees it as a favorable outcome for all parties involved. Ashworth and Berrada addressed various transfer-related issues including the approach to player sales and squad management. They highlighted the importance of consistent decision-making to build a financially sustainable and competitive team.

Ashworth stressed the need for bravery in making tough decisions while Berrada emphasized the long-term vision for consistent success in domestic and European competitions.
