Everton ended a five-game winless Premier League streak with a commanding 4-0 victory over struggling Wolves at Goodison Park, piling pressure on manager Gary O’Neil. Both teams had been under scrutiny after conceding four goals each in the previous round but it was Everton who bounced back with a much-improved performance, moving five points clear of the relegation zone.

The match started perfectly for the home side when Ashley Young scored a stunning 25-yard free-kick, curling the ball around the wall and into the bottom corner. Everton thought they had doubled their lead shortly after when James Tarkowski’s header was ruled out for offside. Wolves had a few chances but Jordan Pickford kept them at bay, denying Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Everton made Wolves pay for their missed opportunities when Orel Mangala capitalized on a defensive error to score from 20 yards out. In the second half, Wolves’ woes deepened as Craig Dawson scored two own goals from Dwight McNeil’s crosses, effectively sealing the victory. The win marked Everton’s first in six matches and only their third league win of the season.

It was a much-needed boost for manager Sean Dyche, whose side had been struggling to find the back of the net. The result also came as a relief ahead of tough upcoming fixtures against the Premier League’s top four teams. Meanwhile, Wolves were poor defensively conceding 36 goals in 14 matches, the most in the league. O’Neil faced chants of frustration from the home fans and questions about his future are likely to intensify after this humiliating defeat.
