Federico Chiesa is reportedly being eyed by Liverpool for a potential move from Juventus. The 26-year-old Italian, who played in Italy’s Euro 2024 squad, no longer fits into the plans of Juventus manager Thiago Motta, who took charge of the club earlier this summer. With Chiesa’s contract set to expire in a year, Motta notably left him out of his first league match against Como as well as the recent game against Hellas Verona.
These omissions have sparked speculation about Chiesa’s future at the club. Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, mentioned earlier this summer that the club plans to be “opportunistic” in making signings, suggesting that Liverpool might be exploring various transfer options. However, their interest in Chiesa remains in the exploratory stage, with no concrete moves made yet.
Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool has prioritized strengthening their squad but has yet to make any signings this summer. The club is close to securing a deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili but their attempts to sign Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi failed as he chose to remain with Real Sociedad. Chiesa joined Juventus from Fiorentina in 2020 for a fee of up to £54 million and has made 131 appearances for the club.
He also played a key role in Italy’s Euro 2020-winning squad. However, injuries and inconsistent form have limited his impact in recent seasons fueling speculation about his potential departure. If Liverpool pursues a deal further, Federico Chiesa could become a significant addition to their attacking options.
