Giorgi Mamardashvili has agreed to sign with Liverpool from Valencia in a deal potentially worth up to £29 million. The 23-year-old will officially join the Reds ahead of the 2025-26 season, pending a work permit and international clearance. The transfer includes an initial fee of £25 million with an additional £4 million in potential add-ons. Mamardashvili has made 102 appearances for Valencia since joining in 2021 and will remain with the La Liga club for the current season.
Liverpool acted quickly to secure the goalkeeper’s future amid growing interest, ensuring they wouldn’t miss out on his services in the next 12-24 months. At Liverpool, Brazil international Alisson Becker remains the first-choice goalkeeper. Alisson, 31, has two years left on his contract with the option for a further year, and he supports the club’s decision to sign Mamardashvili.
The Georgian is a strong long-term prospect who will add depth and talent to Liverpool’s goalkeeping ranks. New Liverpool manager Arne Slot also has Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher at his disposal for the current season, providing additional competition and cover in goal. Mamardashvili featured in all four of Georgia’s matches at Euro 2024, helping them reach the round of 16 before eventual champions Spain eliminated them.
He has also started both of Valencia’s fixtures this season, although the club suffered defeats to Barcelona and Celta Vigo. Liverpool’s proactive approach in securing Giorgi Mamardashvili reflects their intent to build for the future with the young goalkeeper expected to bolster their squad when he arrives on Merseyside in 2025.
