Jadon Sancho Nets First as Chelsea Thrash Southampton

Jadon Sancho scored his first goal for Chelsea as they comfortably defeated Southampton 6-1, capitalizing on a series of errors from the hosts. Sancho sealed the win late after goals from Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer had put Chelsea in control. Southampton briefly equalized at 1-1 through Joe Aribo but their defensive mistakes including a red card for captain Jack Stephens, proved costly.

Chelsea took the lead early when Southampton’s goalkeeper Joe Lumley failed to clear a corner allowing Disasi to score. Southampton responded four minutes later when Aribo converted a cross from Kyle Walker-Peters to level the score. However, another mistake from Lumley, this time while playing out from the back allowed Nkunku to score into an empty net and restore Chelsea’s advantage. Madueke doubled the lead before halftime with a well-placed strike after a brilliant dribble.

The match became even more difficult for Southampton when Stephens was sent off for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair leaving them with ten men. Despite hitting the woodwork twice through Tosin Adarabioyo and Palmer, Chelsea continued to dominate. Palmer eventually made it 5-1 and Jadon Sancho rounded off the victory with his first Chelsea goal after a through ball from Malo Gusto.

Chelsea’s win lifted them to second in the Premier League above Arsenal while Southampton remained at the bottom. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca’s tactical changes and the team’s strong performance led to chants of “we’ve got our Chelsea back” from the away fans. For Southampton errors and injuries compounded their struggles with Stephens now suspended after his red card and Lumley enduring a night to forget.
