Jhon Duran a 20-year-old Colombian talent and Aston Villa striker has been making waves in the Premier League, averaging a goal every 83 minutes and preparing for his Champions League debut against Bayern Munich. His rise has been rapid becoming one of the youngest goalscorers in Colombian football history and the youngest foreign signing in Major League Soccer.

Duran’s journey began at Envigado where he joined at 11 years old, moving away from his family in Medellin. He was supported by a close-knit, hardworking family who eventually moved with him to ensure he remained grounded. Notably, youth coach Wilberth Perea Mena recognized Duran’s potential early on and shifted him from a winger to a striker, helping him channel his raw talent through dedicated training.

In 2021, Jhon Duran made headlines when he became MLS’s youngest international signing for a fee of $2.5 million. Following this, he had a strong season with Chicago Fire finishing as the club’s top scorer with eight goals. Consequently, Duran’s impressive performance caught the attention of Aston Villa, who signed him in January 2023 for an initial £14.75 million.

Despite a slow start at Villa, he eventually made his mark last season scoring multiple goals in the Europa Conference League and the Premier League. This season, he has begun on a high note, netting four goals in six substitute appearances. Furthermore, Villa captain John McGinn noted Duran’s improved focus and attitude, suggesting he is maturing as a player.

Under manager Unai Emery, Duran is evolving into a key player for Villa with the potential to transition from super sub to a regular starter. Ultimately, his promising career trajectory suggests he is on the cusp of even greater success.
