Joachim Andersen Joins Fulham in £30M Transfer
Joachim Andersen has joined Fulham from Crystal Palace in a deal worth approximately £30 million. The Cottagers pursued the 28-year-old Danish defender throughout the summer. Initially, Fulham’s bid was rejected as Crystal Palace sought a fee closer to £40 million. Ultimately, Fulham secured Andersen’s services on a five-year contract with the option for an additional year.
Andersen expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining Fulham, a club he previously played for on loan during the 2020-21 season. “It’s really nice to be here. It feels a little bit like coming home, so it’s a good feeling,” Andersen said. He noted his familiarity with the club’s style of play, many of the players, and some of the staff which made his decision easier.
During his loan spell with Fulham, Joachim Andersen made 31 Premier League appearances and scored one goal. After his loan period, Andersen transferred to Crystal Palace from Lyon in the summer of 2021. Over his time with the Eagles, he made 112 appearances. Notably, Andersen played every minute of Denmark’s Euro 2024 campaign which concluded with a last-16 defeat to the host nation, Germany.
While Andersen’s move to Fulham is now finalized, Crystal Palace faces potential changes in their defensive lineup. Marc Guehi, Andersen’s former Palace centre-back partner, has attracted interest from Newcastle. However, Palace chairman Steve Parish suggested it is “unlikely” that both Andersen and Guehi would depart the club in the same transfer window.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner confirmed that Guehi will captain the team against West Ham and expects all current players to remain with the club unless informed otherwise.
