Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka Secure Arsenal’s Opening Victory

Kai Havertz kicked off Arsenal’s Premier League season with a solid victory over Wolves at Emirates Stadium. He scored the opener with a first-half header from Bukayo Saka’s cross, and Saka added a second after the break with a powerful left-footed shot following a quickly taken free-kick. Although Arsenal didn’t perform at their best, they controlled the game and earned a deserved win against a determined Wolves side.

Wolves’ debutant Jorgen Strand Larsen nearly scored with a first-half header but Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya made a strong save. Matheus Cunha, who came on as a substitute for Wolves had a chance to equalize but could only produce a weak shot straight at Raya. Before the match, the stadium paid tribute to former Arsenal forward Kevin Campbell, who passed away at 54 earlier this summer.

Campbell, a key figure in Arsenal’s 1990-91 title-winning team, received a heartfelt remembrance from the club and fans. Kai Havertz’s goal served as a fitting homage, echoing Campbell’s style with a powerful header past Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa. The German international’s work rate caused problems for Wolves throughout the match. Wolves sold Max Kilman and Pedro Neto for nearly £100m this summer.

Despite holding 47% possession, they lacked a cutting edge in attack. Strand Larsen’s effort tested the goalkeeper, but fellow new signing Rodrigo Gomes struggled to make an impact. With only three notable chances, Wolves must reinvest before the transfer window closes, as they need more sharpness and energy to challenge teams like Arsenal effectively.

Gary O’Neil’s side also covered eight kilometers less than Arsenal, emphasizing the need for greater effort and creativity in the coming months.
