Leandro Trossard Sent Off as Arsenal and City Share Points

Leandro Trossard received a correct red card from referee Michael Oliver during Arsenal’s thrilling 2-2 draw against Manchester City according to the Key Match Incidents (KMI) panel. Trossard received a red card in first-half injury time for kicking the ball away after a foul on Bernardo Silva. This dismissal marked the second time Arsenal had a player sent off for delaying the restart following Declan Rice’s red card in a recent 1-1 draw against Brighton.

The KMI panel stated, “Leandro Trossard clearly delays the restart by kicking the ball away,” although one panellist suggested that the split-second nature of the action could serve as a mitigating factor. At the time of Trossard’s dismissal Arsenal led 2-1 but Manchester City equalized in the 98th minute with a goal from John Stones securing a point and regaining the top position in the Premier League.

In another review, the KMI panel supported referee David Coote’s decision not to send off Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez for a tackle on Daichi Kamada during a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace. Although Martinez left the ground with both feet, VAR Chris Kavanagh decided Coote did not need to review his on-field call. The panel acknowledged that the challenge was “ridiculous” but affirmed that the decision was correct as no contact occurred.

The panel divided on Morgan Gibbs-White’s red card in Nottingham Forest’s 2-2 draw against Brighton, voting 3-2 against the dismissal. They also disagreed on whether West Ham should have received a penalty in their 3-0 loss to Chelsea with a 3-2 majority believing it was a foul. The panel noted that while referee Samuel Barrott supported the call of no penalty, the incident involved “sustained holding.”
