Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag rejected comparisons to “Harry Potter” after his side suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool. Despite the loss, United now sit 14th in the Premier League with just three points from three games. Ten Hag stays optimistic and believes they can still win a trophy this season. Liverpool dominated the match with Luis Diaz scoring twice in the first half and Mohamed Salah adding a third early in the second.

United avoided a repeat of their 5-0 defeat from two years ago. However, Ten Hag found the performance disappointing, especially since six of his signings started the game. Ten Hag introduced £50.5m Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte to the fans before the match. However, Ugarte did not play as he needs time to build his fitness. Ten Hag emphasized that it will take weeks or even a month for new players like Ugarte to fully integrate into the team.

He defended striker Joshua Zirkzee, who struggled with aimless passes but created United’s best scoring chances. Ten Hag also noted Matthijs de Ligt’s discomfort at the back alongside Lisandro Martinez. The defeat particularly affected veteran midfielder Casemiro, who made errors that led to two Liverpool goals. Ten Hag substituted Casemiro at half-time for 20-year-old Toby Collyer explaining that he needed to take risks and cover more ground.

Ten Hag addressed rumors that Casemiro left the stadium early, confirming that the Brazilian stayed until the end. He also assured that Casemiro will continue to contribute to the team. Ten Hag acknowledged the need for improvement but remains confident in Manchester United potential. He believes that by the end of the season, they will have a strong chance of lifting another trophy.
