Manchester United’s woes deepened with a dismal 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth, marking their second consecutive defeat to the Cherries at Old Trafford. The result leaves United 13th in the Premier League, their first time in the bottom half of the table since the pre-Premier League era. Fans already angered by rising ticket prices, are planning protests at the upcoming match against Liverpool. The frustration was palpable with supporters booing Ruben Amorim’s side off the pitch.

Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag last month, acknowledged the team’s struggles and said the current situation was “really tough for everybody.” Despite dominating possession (60%) and creating more chances than Bournemouth, United were undone by defensive lapses, particularly from set pieces. They’ve now conceded 17 goals from set-pieces in the Premier League this year, their most in a single calendar year.

Amorim took responsibility but emphasized that the loss wasn’t solely due to set-pieces, pointing out that they created more opportunities but failed to convert. Defender Lisandro Martinez expressed frustration, stating, “We are so angry with this kind of situation” and stressed the need to improve on set-pieces. Amorim has few options at his disposal, with players like Tyrell Malacia and Diogo Dalot failing to make an impact in their positions.

Additionally, Noussair Mazraoui’s reckless tackle on Justin Kluivert resulted in Bournemouth’s second goal from the penalty spot. Bruno Fernandes was the only player to show consistent threat going forward with Marcus Rashford left out for a third consecutive match. As Manchester United face a tough December, Amorim’s challenge remains to fix their defensive issues and restore confidence within the squad.
