Mohamed Salah: A Step Closer to Premier League Glory
Mohamed Salah continues to shine for Liverpool, scoring two goals in a 6-3 win over Tottenham to overtake Manchester City’s Erling Haaland in the Golden Boot race. With 15 goals and 11 assists this season, Salah is on track to repeat his 2022 success by winning both the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards. Despite speculation surrounding his future, with his contract expiring in the summer, Salah’s form remains exceptional.
Salah’s 12 goals in his last 12 matches and 33 goal involvements across all competitions (18 goals, 15 assists) make him the most productive player in Europe’s top five leagues this season. His performance against Tottenham also set three Premier League records: the first player to reach double figures for goals and assists before Christmas, the first to do so in four consecutive seasons and the first to achieve this feat six times, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s five.
Looking ahead, Salah has a chance to break even more records. He is on track to finish as the Premier League’s top scorer for a fourth time, a feat only Arsenal’s Thierry Henry has accomplished. With 18 league goals in each of his seven seasons at Liverpool, Salah is aiming for his fifth 20-goal season, joining an elite group of players. When compared to other Premier League greats, Salah ranks eighth on the all-time goal scorer list with 172 goals, closing in on fourth-placed Andrew Cole.
He is also rapidly climbing the assist ranks, recently tying David Beckham for 10th place with 80 assists. With 252 goal involvements in 279 Premier League appearances, Mohamed Salah’s pace of one involvement every 1.1 games is the best in Premier League history making him a contender to break Alan Shearer’s record of 324 goal involvements.
