Mohamed Salah Hints at Leaving Liverpool After Derby Win

Mohamed Salah has hinted that this season might be his last at Liverpool, revealing that the club has not discussed a new contract with him. The 32-year-old Egyptian forward, whose current deal expires next summer, hinted this could be his last season at Liverpool. He made the comment after scoring in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

Salah expressed that he approached the game with the mindset it could be his final appearance at Old Trafford. He told Sky Sports, “Nobody at the club has talked to me about contracts, so I’m treating this as my last season and will see what happens at the end of it.” Liverpool manager Arne Slot responded to Salah’s remarks by focusing on the player’s performance rather than contract issues.

Slot praised Salah’s excellent play but refrained from discussing contract matters. Mohamed Salah signed a new three-year deal in July 2022, reportedly making him Liverpool’s highest-paid player. He earns more than £350,000 a week under this contract. Despite a significant £150m offer from Al-Ittihad last September, Liverpool chose to keep him.

During the match against Manchester United, Salah achieved several milestones:
– He has either scored or assisted 17 of Liverpool’s last 23 Premier League goals against United, more than any other player in the competition.
– Salah has now scored 10 goals in nine appearances at Old Trafford for Liverpool making him only the second player since 1992-93 to score 10+ goals at a single away ground for Premier League clubs.
– He also became the first player to score in five consecutive away games against Manchester United in the Premier League.

Liverpool’s win leaves them second in the Premier League just behind Manchester City on goal difference. Salah praised the victory underscoring the significance of derby matches. He emphasized the need for Liverpool to keep winning in order to compete for the league title. He also noted Liverpool’s tactical approach under Jurgen Klopp focusing on high pressing and capitalizing on opponents’ mistakes.
