Mohamed Salah’s penalty secured Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over winless Wolves, sending them back to the top of the Premier League. Salah’s second-half spot kick came just five minutes after Rayan Ait-Nouri equalized for Wolves, who had struggled to convert their positive play into victories. Ibrahima Konate initially put Liverpool ahead with a header just before half-time, capitalizing on a cross from Diogo Jota.
Wolves started energetically with Alisson saving an early attempt from Matheus Cunha. However, despite their promising start, they couldn’t maintain control. Liverpool nearly doubled their lead shortly after half-time but Salah missed a chance following a poor pass from Mario Lemina. Ait-Nouri’s equalizer arrived when he scored from close range after Carlos Forbs’ mis-hit shot.
Liverpool responded swiftly with Nelson Semedo pushing Jota in the box allowing Mohamed Salah to convert the penalty. While not their most dominant display, Liverpool secured their fifth win in six matches, putting them above Manchester City and Arsenal in the standings. New manager Arne Slot may not have them playing the aggressive style of Jurgen Klopp but he is instilling a winning mentality in the team.
For Wolves it was another frustrating day leaving them still searching for their first win of the season. Despite showing potential in recent matches against teams like Newcastle and Chelsea, they failed to convert positive moments into points. Wolves face upcoming matches against Brentford and Manchester City. They risk entering November without a win unless they can beat Brighton at the end of October.
Fans may wonder when the team will finally secure a victory as they navigate this challenging period.
