Morgan Gibbs-White Shines as Forest Sink Wolves 3-0
Morgan Gibbs-White inspired Nottingham Forest to a clinical 3-0 win over Wolves at Molineux, impressing new England manager Thomas Tuchel. Morgan Gibbs-White a former Wolves player, silenced the jeers with a seventh-minute goal following a rapid counter-attack. Chris Wood doubled Forest’s lead before halftime with his 12th goal of the season set up by Callum Hudson-Odoi’s excellent wide play. Taiwo Awoniyi added a late third, capitalizing on another swift counter.
Despite the scoreline, Wolves had opportunities with Joao Gomes and Jorgen Strand Larsen denied by Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels, who also kept out Larsen’s second effort and was crucial to maintaining a fourth consecutive clean sheet. Murillo’s goalline clearance further frustrated the hosts. Forest’s defensive solidity has been a cornerstone of their success this season with Sels pivotal in earning nine clean sheets in 20 league games.
Their disciplined backline has conceded just 19 goals this season, compared to 67 last campaign. For Wolves, the defeat exposed their squad’s fragility. Manager Vitor Pereira suffered his first loss since replacing Gary O’Neil with his side now only out of the relegation zone on goal difference. Pereira urgently needs reinforcements as evidenced by Wolves’ thin bench which included 16-year-old Wes Okoduwa.
Wolves are close to signing Reims center-back Emmanuel Agbadou for £16.6m, but financial constraints may limit further transfers. While Forest celebrated their 12th win, surpassing last season’s total, Wolves face a critical period. With Liverpool visiting on January 14, Pereira must address their defensive issues and lack of depth to ensure Premier League survival.
