New Southampton Holds Fulham to Goalless Draw

New Southampton manager Ivan Juric faced the challenges ahead, despite earning a goalless draw at Fulham. Juric, who replaced the sacked Russell Martin watched as his team struggled in attack, managing only one shot on target in the 56th minute. Adam Armstrong’s tame effort was the only time Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno faced a save. Southampton’s offensive woes continued with the team scoring just 11 goals in 17 matches, the lowest in the Premier League.

The draw left New Southampton at the bottom of the table at Christmas for the first time in their history with only six points. Despite this, Juric felt encouraged by his team’s defensive organization and resilience. Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale returning from a finger injury, played a crucial role in keeping Fulham at bay with several key saves. Fulham’s Adama Traore also missed a late chance to win.

Juric’s tactics emphasized a more aggressive, high-pressing style compared to Martin’s possession-based approach. He was vocal with his staff during the match, frequently urging the team to press and engage more. Tyler Dibling a standout performer for Southampton impressed Juric with a strong run and the coach plans to nurture his development.

Fulham manager Marco Silva, whose team failed to capitalize on the draw, lamented missed opportunities, saying they should have been more clinical. Fulham created chances but couldn’t break down Southampton’s defense. BBC Radio Solent’s Adam Blackmore urged Southampton fans to give Juric time to prove himself, citing his successful spells at Torino and Verona.

Juric’s tenure may not lead to immediate improvement but with the club in a difficult position, supporters must be patient as he works to turn things around.
